dc.description.abstractDrainage basin delineation is a very important process in hydrology models. The accuracy of drainage basin delineation affects the accuracy of the hydrologic model tremendously. Digital elevation models (DEMs) are the main source of information to perform a drainage basin delineation. The goal of this research is to evaluate the performance of various combinations of sampling strategies, sampling densities and interpolation techniques on the accuracies of drainage basins derived from DEMs with consideration of the DEM size and spatial autocorrelation as important DEM characteristics. We found that the greatest impact on prediction accuracy was by sampling density. Kriging interpolation and Probabilistic Idealize Cluster sampling (PIC) performed the best. We found that the accuracy of the drainage basin increased as the spatial autocorrelation increased and as the DEM size increased. It was also found that the terrain features influenced the accuracy of the drainage basin delineation significantly.
