Description

Starboard side view of the Fokker tri-motor airplane at Roosevelt Field prior to its attempted trans-Atlantic flight in 1927 to capture the Orteig Prize (later won by Charles Lindbergh.) The airplane crashed on a practice takeoff severely injuring Floyd Bennett, the pilot, and his passenger, Richard Byrd. Image displayed (72 dpi JPEG), Master image (600 dpi TIFF).
