Text of the speech President Kennedy was going to give at the Trade Mart Luncheon the afternoon of his assassination. He begins his remarks by saluting the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest, which was a co-sponsor of the event, as "unique and forward-looking.". The speech is an overview of Kennedy's perception of the strength and security of the United States under his administration. He concludes that "America today is stronger than ever before," and that she has the "military, the scientific, and the economic strength to do whatever must be done for the preservation and promotion of freedom." Nevertheless that strength must never be used in the "pursuit of aggressive ambitions." Rather, Americans must "exercise our strength with wisdom and restraint," so that "we may achieve in our time and for all time the ancient vision of 'peace on earth, good will toward men'."
