Susan Buol Hacker was born October 17, 1917 in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from University of MN and worked at Los Alamos Labs during WWII.
Follwing the war, she became executive secretary for General Claire Chennault, who created Civil Air Transport (CAT - later known as Air America).
In 1950, her husband Lawrence Robert Buol, a CAT pilot, was captured by the communist Chinese while flying in supplies over what was called the "Burma Hump". Sue worked tirelessly to get him released from communist prison at Kunming only to see him die in 1955, eight months after his release.
She was active in the CAT Association as its Secretary-Treasurer, helping to keep the CAT members in touch with each other and making their work a part of the historical record.
After Bob's death, Sue lived in Hong Kong for six years, where she met John Hacker, a well known saxophone player who traveled with his band playing different venues. After two years of courtship, John and Sue married. They moved to Nassau, Bahamas, where they lived from 1963 to 1968 until they moved to Hawaii where they lived for fifteen years, and then settled in Boulder Creek, CA . Susan B. Hacker passed away on June 19, 2008.
