J. A. Lopes was a helicopter captain with Air America from 1968 until his resignation in 1974. Lopes was an active member of the Far East Pilots Association (FEPA). FEPA was a union formed by the pilots of Air America to represent their interests. In 1974, negotiations between Air America and FEPA broke down resulting in a strike by the Air America Pilots.
